And became the HR advisor whom leaders called when people issues were tangled, and the stakes were high.

The work was real. The perceived value wasn’t.


I tried to outwork it.
More hours. More output. More proving.
Until I ended up in a doctor's office.

The neurologist was blunt — chronic stress had started to damage my sight.

"You will lose your eyesight."

 

That single sentence did what no performance review ever could.
 


 

It forced the truth to the surface:

I had spent years studying how the brain pays attention, how trust forms, and how reputations take shape… and I had applied none of it to my own life.

Brilliance was carrying me. Burnout was billing me.

Signal Shift

I STOPPED CHASING ATTENTION. I STARTED BUILDING A NAME.

It began with a magazine I published, HR Toolkit. One issue reached the Editor-in-Chief at DAWN, which became Dear Workplace Sanity, a column read by 1M+ people for a decade.

Then things changed.


Leaders reached out first.
My name began to travel across industries.

I charged more.
Worked less. 
Spoke on stages.
